Tanzania is superb as a honeymoon destination, not only for its stunning natural landscapes and wildlife, but also because you can take a safari and beach within such close proximity of each other. Some people even take a Zanzibar honeymoon without the safari! With such efficient internal flights to whisk you from luxury safari to luxury beach, the memories you make in Tanzania will be with you forever. And of course, the climate is excellent in all months other than April and May, specifically during our summer and winter wedding / honeymoon seasons.
We pride ourselves on the quality of our itinerary planning. Each honeymoon is constructed according to the needs of the individual couple. With a country as diverse as Tanzania it’s important to know how to get away from the path most travelled. Our knowledge of the camps, the best rooms and best game areas ensures that your Tanzania honeymoon is that once in a lifetime experience it should be.
There are so many options for small, brilliantly run and appointed Tanzania Honeymoon lodges, both on safari and on the beaches. Tanzania is lucky enough to have some proper beach-dream beaches and small, high quality, romantic lodges that are destinations in themselves. Some of these small, owner run lodges make ideal honeymoon locations, and will go the extra mile, offering exclusive dining, sleeping out under the stars, fly-camping and other magical moments.
We pride ourselves on the quality of our tailor-made honeymoon safaris, built from experience that we have painstakingly gained over the last 2 decades, and we do not organise “pre-packaged” trips – however to give you an idea of the possibilities please see a couple of digital itinerariesFor what is almost certainly our favourite honeymoon have a look at Southern Tanzania with mainland coast. Each lodge offers a low season rate even in high season if you book early. Great game viewing from beautiful lodges with a romantic beach to finish. A winning combination. Approx $5,300 per person.
If you’re looking for the same style of trip – Selous, Ruaha, beach – but fancy a more adventurous style of camp on safari and somewhere slightly less expensive on the beach then we are big fans of Manze, Mdonya and Sunshine Hotel. Approx $4,350 per person and finishes with a private plunge pool.
Staying south, the big grower in recent years has been the beach-safari-beach style of honeymoon. You can relax and recharge on the beach after the stress of the wedding, have a great 3 or more nights on safari then finish with an ultra-luxurious or intimate (or both!) beach property. This is a favourite at approx $5,400 per person – Ras Kutani, Siwandu and the Residence.
A northern safari makes beach-safari-beach impractical due to distance and cost of flying. Although the north is always touted as a more expensive safari destination, a few operators have launched new lodges that are good and (relatively!) inexpensive. Try the Kirurumu Circuit and Beach for approx $5,950 per person.
The classic Northern itinerary followed by the beach, which works equally well for honeymooners and non-honeymooners alike, is to visit Oliver’s, Plantation Lodge and Alex Walker’s Serian followed by Ras Kutani. Approx$8,600 per person.
If this is a honeymoon without limits try Northern Tanzania with Zanzibar. This is as luxurious and, frankly, as amazing as Tanzania can offer but, at approx $14,300 per person, it should be!
If you’re a safari veteran or feel like a honeymoon that you can be certain none of your friends have done, then Western Tanzania with Zanzibar is an expensive but unbelievably romantic and exciting honeymoon. The downsides are unavoidable, long and pricey internal flights, making the trip approx $11,000 per person.
The Best Ever
Wildlife safaris in Tanzania are some of the best in the world, regardless of whether the safari is a honeymoon or not. Most safari parks are but a short flight away from glorious Indian Ocean beaches – and it is this combination that makes such a fantastic honeymoon. Some of the wonders Tanzania has include….
The Serengeti’s Great Migration is one of the greatest natural events on the planet. Up to two million wildebeest move round the Serengeti and Masai Mara ecosystems followed closely by approximately 300,000 zebra and 200,00 assorted other antelopes.
The Ngorongoro Crater is one of Africa’s most famous sites. Once a volcano supposedly taller than Kilimanjaro, the Ngorongoro Crater is 20 kilometers across with 600 metre high walls. Africa’s Big Five are found on the Crater floor as well as large herds of buffalo, zebra and wildebeest.
The Southern parks of Selous and Ruaha, that offer perfect boutique honeymoon accommodations, away from the crowds. Great value luxury, a fantastic variety of game, and the option of walking and boating safaris make these parks excellent options for couples.
With private islands, private safari guides, intimate, tiny lodges and glorious places to see, Tanzania is a seriously good honeymoon destination, as generations of honeymoon clients will gladly testify!
